Oh Darn!!!

I have about fifty pair of hand knit socks. I adore them. Love. About 99% of them have holes that need to be fixed. I have known this, and put it off for a long time. But you know what? It is cold. Winter is setting in, and my poor feet are freezing. So this week I decided it was time to get out my trusty light bulb (from the boys bathroom. I swear they don't open their eyes while in there, so they won't notice) my yarn, thread, and needles. Then I got started.
The hole.

All threaded up.

And woven in with yarn.

Other than that, I finally got the perfect buttons on these perfect "Baby Surprise" jackets that my sister wife made. Love them. Love, love, love!!

The newborn size.
And the six month size.

Then I finished the previously mentioned hat. The hat that tried really hard not to be. Ironically, the hat got lost after I bought new yarn. I was feeling pretty frustrated, but it was found, and now it is done. I adore it. It turned out perfectly. It was a pattern from my brain, but I love the decreases!

Cute little decreases!
Now I will make matching little baby pants.

And I have to show
Off my mini-me's current project... The Katniss cowl. She is awesome, and watching her be a knit addict makes my life happy.

Rippit, rippit, rippit

The blessing outfit has been frogged. Of course I kept knitting it until it was nearly complete first. Still hated it. Gave it my best though. I found another pattern I adored, and had knit before. That was the final straw in the cap of the blessing outfit, and away I went, frogging with much satisfaction. Then I went to print the pattern, only to find that it was no longer available. Oy-vey... The search continues.

In the meantime, I have some serious yarn drama.
I found a yarn. It was the perfect yarn that gave me dreams of a perfect baby hat. It was left over from some socks, and I was pretty sure there was just enough. (Famous last words anyone??) But that isn't how this tale ends. No, indeed. It takes twists and turns that you would never expect. This yarn was in two skeins, since I had knit the socks two at a time. After casting on, and knitting the entire first skein, things were going well and I was feeling good about my chances of finishing the hat just at the end of the yarn. On Sunday I packed the second little ball, and headed off to church.  I sat down, and after waiting the appropriate amount of time (we don't play with toys, eat snacks, or knit until after the sacrament has been passed. See? Total knitting justification.) I got out my knitting, and went to attach the second skein. It wasn't there. I looked like a meth addict looks for her crack pipe and needles. Still, nothing. So I did the only sensible thing, and left my amazing husband alone with five children so I could run home to search for the lost lamb, like the savior would have me do. (What was that about knitting justification?) I searched high and low. Nothing. It was gone. I could find it nowhere. I took another, less satisfying project and made it through church. Then continued searching when I got home. Fast forward to Monday night. There is a knock at my door. I open it to find the neighbor from a mile down the road standing there, holding out the yarn like a bouquet of flowers on Valentine's day. It was all I could do not to kiss the man. Apparently he had found the yarn, and by reasonable deduction, decided it must belong to me. Ahhh, my hero. My yarn was home.  I gently packed it into my yarn bag, and headed off to my monthly ob appointment. The appointment was great, and all looks fantastic, but I was there for less than ten minutes from the time I walked in the door to when I walked out, so no knitting time.  I ran to football after, which was in a town an hour away. I settled in, grabbed my hat, and went to grab the second skein of yarn. Gone. No where to be found. The lamb had wandered off again. I have no idea where to even look, except the ob office, which I will be going to this afternoon. This yarn may just need to stay lost, while I purchase another skein... Then I could knit a matching jacket.
Some things are not meant to be, and others after meant to be bigger.

Just knitting..

I am determined that this baby will have clothes. Hand knit, delicious clothes. He will still be naked frequently, since he belongs to our family, but he will have some yummy hand knits. So we have been working hard.
The blessing outfit that I hate and know I will frog, yet I keep knitting....

A hat the oldest started and I finished. Yay self patterning sugar rush, sugar cane.

Um.. I couldn't help it.. Socks for me.

A newborn cardigan knit by the oldest.

A cabled hat.

 A cabled newborn jacket.

And an end of the summer trip to Yellowstone. Not knitting, but I knit on the hat I am currently working on while there, so it counts.

And I am working on actual work. Or the amazing husband is anyway. The herb garden, all ready for soap.

And because I can, yoda cat.

And it's a .... What??

I have been sure this little miracle was a girl. Just positive. I never even doubted it for a minute.
Then we found out the gender.

Our little miracle is a BOY!!! What??? Shocked.

I feel guilty saying this, because I really was gender neutral.... But if given a magic wand and the ability to have chosen the gender....

I would have chosen a boy. I would have been equally happy with either gender, but I am so thrilled to have another special little mama's boy. A baby boy.  Now there is so much knitting to do!!  I spent a good long time looking at boy patterns. I printed about twenty.

Then I took a small detour to knit this boy a snuggly blanket.
I am a good mom, if you ignore the fact that I bought this yarn with promises of the blanket two years ago.

Now I am doing some serious knitting on a cabled baby cardi.
It is one that I knit for a very special little boy that my friend helped into this world almost a year ago. He was a miracle as well. I love this pattern, and never thought I would have the chance to knit it for my own little boy someday. I will totally link it. Sometime. Now is not that time.

And I have been spinning. I broke out the wheel to spin some gosh awful wool that s friend got in Estonia. It is terrible stuff, and is going to look and feel horrible... But this friend is so very worth it.

A who surprise

My sister wife/ bff is a Whovian. That is a person who is unnaturally obsessed with the show "Dr Who." A show that I don't really understand, and think is a little boring. However, I must be in the wrong because my other dear friend is a fan also.

So when I saw the Pantless knitter blog about these, I had to knit them. Two pair.

Now I am working on "Tree of Life" socks. The sister wife knit them, and holy amazing!!!!!  Just crazy awesome. I need them. I am not happy with my current yarn choice though. I plan to remedy that today.

In baby related news...
I ordered a pack of newborn onsies. Yesterday's ultrasound made it feel real. The baby was sucking its hands, and rubbing its eyes. It was being entirely too cute, and I kind of fell a little bit in love. I hope that doesn't jinx it.

The difference between normal and me

Normal.

A normal woman looks forward to the big gender reveal ultrasound with hope, joy, and dreams about a pink or blue nursery. They dream about a pink crib set, or that perfect blue lamp.

My big appointment is in 48 hours. I am super excited, and am looking forward to it with hope, joy, and the fulfillment of knowing that I will know the gender if I end up burying this baby before the gender can be easily seen. I will know what my baby was for sure, instead of an indistinct feeling. As silly as it is, this is huge!!!

Everything has been wonderful, and fine as far as the health of the baby. I have had zero signs that this baby will not make it to full term... But seeing as how this is my 19th pregnancy, and I have given birth to 4 live children... Well the math kinda gets me. I keep wondering when this will feel real, and when I will allow myself to believe that I am actually having a baby. A live, healthy baby that I will get to bring home. I have yet to allow myself to glance at the baby section. I own exactly nothing for this baby. I didn't even keep a single onsie after my last since we were "done." I wonder when I will jump in and make that first baby purchase.

Maybe after Monday. Maybe.

I swear I have a good excuse

And that excuse is that I have been sick. So, so sick. The kind of sick that makes you wish for death several times a day.

But now? I am still sick, but a much more manageable sick. The kind of sick that I can totally live with.

The illness is not exactly contagious.... At least not until about 8 months or so after the illness begins. At that point it seems that many women struggle with a desire for this illness.

It starts with this:
Ok, you and I both know that it technically doesn't start with that, but for the sake of pictures....

And it grows. It grows into a miracle.

Our family was complete nearly six years ago. We knew we were done. Then in January we were told very clearly that we were not so done. That a special child needed to come to our home. We were shocked, and I really struggled with the idea. I was scared. I am old. Way to old to start again! My body is magnificent, and functions well. It does what I need it to do, but was it fair to ask this of it? I really thought not. However, after many prayers we felt strongly that his will would be done. Then there was that spark of hope and excitement. Now? I am still in shock, but very thankful for this blessing. This miracle. We will be accepting this extremely special spirit into our home in February.

And next week we find out the gender, and all that stuff. Super exciting!!
